Energy Star appliance program gets scrutiny

I have worked hard to attain Energy Star certification for my homes. It’s not an easy process and each home must be inspected at four different points during its construction, covering a myriad of things such as insulation levels, weatherproofing, materials, heating and cooling systems and much more.

I recently came across this story about the appliance certification program of Energy Star. It’s of great concern that inspectors were apparently able to get certification for bogus appliances.

I can tell you from personal experience the homebuilding portion of Energy Star is rigorously enforced, as well it should be. Consumers need to have faith in Energy Star and the entire brand is at risk when any part of it fails like this. I hope officials institute the reforms needed to protect the integrity of the Energy Star program.
